Types of Homeschool Software

There are actually a lot more options of homeschool software out there than you might think.  When comparing different types of homeschool software available, one of the first things that comes into play is that of price.  As with anything, prices will vary depending on what software packages you get.  Some packages have a lot more features and information, while others specialize in bookkeeping and organization.  Just remember that you get what you pay for.

There are many free home school software packages out there that offer the basic options to help you get by, and this may be all that you need.  However if you want a software package that will give you information, be user friendly, and offer a wide assortment of information and tools than you are better off going for a priced package.  Top of the line software packages run only around $300 to $320, and encompass everything you need to take your child from preschool to graduation.  They also offer features to help you keep track of grading, scheduling, and record keeping so that you don’t have to do that on your own time.  Obviously you still are in charge of filing the paperwork for the state but it’s nice to know that’s the only thing that you yourself have to monitor.  Another nice thing about these software packages is that unlike expensive online schools, this is something you only pay for once and you even get cheap shipping on most sites.

To give you a better idea of what is out there here are a few different types of homeschooling software.  The first is homeschool software for record keeping.  This software is specifically designed to track attendance and hours, manage assignments, report card, high school transcripts, lesson plans, awards and certificates, and all around student data.

There is also home school curriculum software.  This is different in record keeping software in that it keeps track of mathematics, geography, history, english, astronomy, music, and pretty much anything else that is imperative for your child to learn.   It can also provide applications that create illustrations, design pages, play certain music and more.  This doesn’t initially seem like curriculum but they actually do form a part of it as you learn more about it.  These specific softwares have multitudes of information and can keep your student busy for far longer than it would take to just get through school.  Because of this they make great resources for you as well as your student to better understand the basic principles of the world around us.
