Free Homeschool Software Options

Many people homeschool their children for many different reasons.  The main reason is that it works better with parental work schedules, but the second highest reason is because many parents agree that their children get a better education through being homeschool.  Parents that homeschool know that it takes a lot of hard work and takes a special parent to be able not to judge their kids because some will be smarter than others.  For those special people who have chosen to homeschool, there is a some good news.  There are free homeschool software options available to you.

Research has shown that students respond very well to a software based learning system.  We have seen this transition in the public school sector as well as with colleges and universities.  Children and adults both learn from effective software packages which can significantly help with memory, repetition, and fun learning characters for children.  Is there free home school software available to parents?  The answer is absolutely YES!

The software is called FOSS.  FOSS stands for (free and open source software).  This software has been designed and created by homeschool communities and contributors.  Google thrives on this type of open source contributor software as well and has seen great success from accepting software written by the public.  Some of the most well knows programs we use are open source software creations such as Firefox and Wikipedia.

FOSS costs absolutely nothing and also has the ability for you the parent to customize and change certain aspects of the software.  By using open source software you can help your child learn more about internet use and it’s applications to educate and inspire their minds.  Some of these FOSS homeschool programs include: Blender(3d modeling and animation software), Open Office(Word Processing Suite), and TuxType(Teaches keyboard typing.)  As you can see these software applications have real world meaning as every student must learn typing skills to help them secure a good job in the future.  Children who love to draw and create art can use a free computer program to create art files and even bring them to life through animation.

Many parents who homeschool children are unaware of the different software packages that can help their child learn a viable skill.  The reason that parents don’t know about these software packages is because they think they can’t afford to buy the name brand software packages like Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office.  Hopefully after reading this article you can have a better understanding that there is hundreds of free homeschool software options to be used freely by your children and even yourself.
